The stepgenerator really dislikes step inputs (this is why you have overshoot) so one solution would to feed the position
command through the limit3 component so an actual trapezoidal velocity profile is generated

I'll give that a try - as a quick hint - will that need to be in the toolchanger.comp or can I just reroute it in the hal file?

Hello Mike
Did you ever get this fully working ? I'm trying exactly the same thing (also a Compact 5 CNC with stepper) and have been struggling for weeks to get anything working...

You could try the "carousel" HAL component, which aims to be able to control the Emco changer.

Yes and No.
I had it working on a pre2.8 install. Then I did something really stupid and installed 2.8 from the LiveCD download and overwrote my files somehow so I lost the working copy and didn't have a good backup cause I could never get that machine to connect to the internet and its USB ports were inaccessible...enough excuses. I figured that I got it working once before I could do it again (and now the machine is internet connected its a bit easier to search for answers while working on it).
But I didn't get it working yet
Here is the thread where I took this up again,
Issues with toolchanger.comp
I'm going to continue providing my feedback and as necessary asking questions in that thread.

There is a good chance that your original config was backed-up for you in a folder inside the config folder.
Look for {machine}.old.
