3000 RPM with a 1000 PPR encoder (4000 quadrature counts/rev) is a 200 KHz count rate

(50 RPS * 4000)

Ohh, yes, I calculated in minutes. Anyway, I can use the ethernet type with a laptop as well.

You should be aware that laptops in general do not make good LinuxCNC hosts

This is because they very often have power management hardware/software that cannot be disabled
and that causes large latencies. Some Laptops may be OK or at least OK until you change the backlight brightness
or change from line to battery power etc etc

hi guys,
I am a beginner of LINUXCNC and there is a 3 Axis wood router machine with 4 spindle drivers and large number of drilling, routing tools and hundreds of I/O. And the existing controller is not functioning, so my boss asked me to try to replace the controller with linux cnc & mesa card. What card is the best solution for my requirement.

I have mesa 5i24 & 2x 7i48 cards. Are they suitable for my requirement?

Please help me for these 2 questions.

Hi
as the Mashine seams Servo 7i48 you are fine
you can go with your mesa cards they will work as you think
the 5i24 and 7i48 can drive your spindles as well

you are in good setup maybe you shoudt consider a 7i34 for the RS485 Modebus comunication to the Spindles
as well as a 7i73 or a 7i42 for the IO you need

Assuming your servo drivers are analog ±10V controlled you should be OK.

the 7i48 you got 2 of them got enoph analog out to drive the spindles as i count 12AXIS servos available
so simply use more then 1 pidloop to get them run
you need 3/4 Analog for your Woodrooter so 2/3 Spindles on the First 7i48
then you got 6 more spindle to control on the second 7i48

Typically with the system you have you would use a 7I37TA for general purpose I/O

As techno mentioned, the 7I48s are for interfacing with analog +- 10V servos or
+-10V,0 --> 10V spindles
