No one has ever written a Modbus driver for Mesa hardware. While theoretically possible, I'm told it would have to be written into the firmware for the FPGA or the Hostmot2 driver or both, and that is easier said than done.
It's on my list. But not at the top.
And I really wouldn't be at all upset if someone else did it first.

Just kidding. I'm guessing that that this avenue may just be a bridge too far for now...
Having said that, if there is a small time delay before the auto gear does its calculations (sufficient time for the spindle to stabilize) and bases its assumption on thr fact that by that time the motor will have reached commanded rpm, could this still work?
I seem to recall that you may have had it set up this way previously Andy?

A 7i73 is not expensive and can do analog easily.
