7i96 stepper motor wiggle on plasma table

This is my first post here. I've been an active member on another forum dedicated to Plasma, and a member there suggested I might be able to get some help over here. I searched around if anybody had similar issues but I could find anything related. So here it goes...

My problem (other than being a complete Linux Noob) is that when I push an arrow on the keyboard to move an axis it starts doing tiny wiggles back and forth really fast and gradually gets larger and larger to about 1/2" back and forth, then the software turns off.

If I turn the machine back on in the software then go to the MDI screen I can G0 X1 for example and it will move about an inch, then starts the wiggle thing as described above. I've clearly done something wrong but have no idea even where to start. I've looked at PNCconf, and I think I set things up right, but I am unsure. I have also verified my wiring is correct.

Any ideas where to look would be helpful.

Mesa 7i96 XYYZ configuration on a plasma table. No limit switches.

Thanks in advance,
Nick

Thanks for coming over. Could you post your hal and ini files? They can be uploaded here but thats probably not allowed on your other forum.

Check the hal file for
something.maxerror.something
and omit or delete them
Also make sure the P value is set at 1000 for all axis/joints in the ini file.

I think Tom's getting tired :pinch:
re Also make sure the P value is set at 1000 for all axis/joints in the hal file.

I think he means P = 1000 in the ini file

I made sure p=1000 in the ini, and it was good. I omitted the something.maxerror.something in the hal. No improvement.

The P terms in the ini file are 10000, not 1000

PCW beat me to it...

Probably wont cause the wiggle, but 2X check the Joint_3 scale. It seems really large.

The wiggle is gone. That solved it. Thank you so much. Now I need to figure out how to reverse the + direction in the X and Y, and also figure out why it is moving really really slowly now. Probably the scaling that Snowgoer540 is talking about.

By any chance, does that viggle take about half a second between changes?
