The errors reffering to CD rom are from running a live system, but still that should not disable accessing repositories.
Do you have "software sources" somewhere in the menus?
If yes, open it and uncheck CD rom, enable other stuff there, then in a terminal
sudo apt update
Still, might need to change the repositories there as sometimes the one included just does not work.
If you do not have software sources in the menus,
sudo apt install synaptic
Then open synaptic, on the Settings>Repositories chose some other server and update again.

I could not find software sources, but had synaptic installed. I unchecked the cd rom repository. There are only two others to choose. I was able to get the updates for Linuxcnc, but no luck on mesaflash. Do you know what repository I should add to the list?

Yeah, something still not quite OK, it can not find essential packages like git or build-essential.
I would do a new install, hunting this will probably last much, much longer.
