No but it has been mentioned multiple times in multiple places (pretty sure I have mentioned it myself in this thread, maybe my posts are too long), why it isn't enabled by default is only something those that produce the images can say. I was a advocate for enabling it by default and disabling BT & sound

Or at least this should be mentioned on the download page, but people being people they can be lazy and only want the goodies or they only follow links to the actual downloads.

As you can see there is only one spi device interface that the 7c80 will respond to without a custom cable.

On a Pi <5, if you see anything in /dev/ spi*, spi is enabled...
Seeing as how i didn't have another pi5 with it already enabled to compare /dev/spi* to, it is a fair assumption for folks to make.
At the least, this needs a note/callout.

Honestly I forgot about the 10.0 entry. I really should have qualified this spidev0.xx & spidev1.xx.

Thanks for pointing this out.

Like anything on this forum people will overlook, not bother with it or a hundred other things that will make their life a misery. Look I used to make Mint based linuxcnc images, even including a READ.ME on the desktop people would still not bother to read it & ask the same questions over & over again, even aft they had been answered in the thread. Even updating the open post of the thread discussing these things didn't help.

Actually I'll jump over to Rods github and propose that the spi overlays are enable in the generated images. I really should have done this last year when they were originally being prepared.

Easier than trying to edit a post.

My fork was way out of date to create a pull request and I've kind of forgotten the code structure of the Image generating program. So I started a new thread asking if the next round of images could have the spi interface enabled, I also mentioned that you were a very patient user that had been lead astray by the spidev10.0 being created with the SPI interface, I guess it would be a idea to refer to it as the SPI user usable interface.

I think it would be an idea just to keep it to that topic alone, rather than requesting other software packages and mind reading abilities to be added (rod has declined the mind reading abilities on previous occasions). Tho to be fair in would be quite unkind for the poor old Rpi to read my mind.....I barley know what direction it is going. ;)

That sounds great, I am including this specific callout in the write-up that I am making (specifically for the 7c80, geared towards the Pi5). Since a start to finish guide doesn't exist in any single document.

It may help to mention that the 7c81, mesaflash & driver loading wise is the same. Apart from the difference in the name of the driver loaded the RPi4 is the same. You need to enable the SPI interface via config.txt

Hopefully you'll be able to put together a killer doc that people will read.

Good luck

Nice write up, new Rpi4 & Rpi5 images have measflash 3.5.10 included, as well as SPI being enabled by default. Might take a couple of days for the new images to go online.

point 6 sounds a bit dangerous to me because we are using a custom built kernel so who knows what might happen if you attempt to upgrade the OS version!

I would stick to just doing
sudo apt update
