ok I lied, theres some pots on the drive for speed, gain, and offset. I reaaaaly don't want to touch them as they are fine with the old control (which I'm not fully letting go of yet).

question: will the servo period affect tuning? as in, is faster better or worse, etc. I had it as 2khz, now its at 1khz. it seems to "feel' better, but it may be in my head.

If you are trying to do some of the drives work for it (using LinuxCNCs D term = velocity feedback)
then a higher servo thread rate will allow a higher P term (and better following)

ah, ok. that's what I would have guessed, but it was feeling better slower. ill get back to tuning again after the rest f the machine is all done up. it works well enough at the moment to do the atc and other remaining features. then we'll get back to final tuning when were ready to run programs.

nice clean wiring all done. gotta recheck it for errors tonight, and then i will fire up with various IO one by one.

then we will be on to hal stuff. yay.

was thinking though that i need a testing interface. like an array of buttons to tun on and off or read IO. diagnostics basically. is there a prebuilt thing for that in linuxcnc?

thanks.

Have a look at: linuxcnc.org/docs/devel/html/man/man1/sim_pin.1.html

But that is only available in the master / 2.8 version.

Also be aware that you can't set a signal that already has a writer, and can't set a pin that is connected to a signal.
