That would almost certainly be a servo machine. A Mesa 5i25+7i77 combo or something similar would probably be a good starting point. You will likely need more io as well, so additional smart serial card(s) may also be needed.

You will need to determine how much IO you are going to need, and confirm the servo/encoder interfaces, before committing to any hardware purchases.

All the ones that i have seen ( newer ones ) use servo drives, quite powerfull i might add. The last one i fixed was a over 5 meters by nearly 2 meters of workspace, weighin in at over 6 tones, the whole assembly ( x and z axis) where on one side, built like a tank, it would zip that assembly at 18 meters a minute. I do not remeber the year or model, it was over 4 years ago.
Despite that, working on it was a joy as usual there is logic to everything in it ( unlike some Italian made).

You can use the indramats, they have -10V-10V Control.
You will need many I/Os for the relais, air relays and you will have to do
lots of PLC stuff for vacum, zylinders, spindle axis, drill transmission etc .

Whats your expirience with building machines?

I retrofited my BP10 with Ethercat and Beckhoff Components.

Where are you from?

Hallo db1981,
