I did not push it over 24 m/m, left it at 9m/m.
It had 2510 ballscrews, so plenty of speed.

Hi tommylight,
I have a Hurco BMC40, and I just became to retrofit with Linuxcnc and 5i25 + 7i77 Mesa cards.
I have the same problem as you with the spindle drive, the F600 error at power on. Can you tell me what you did to solve this problem?
Have you finished retrofitting your Hurco?
Thanks.
Bruno

The VFD has a small board inside with yellow wires and 2 small transformers, had to solder those pins as one of them had a cold contact, but still had other issues, it would work for 2 to 4 days non stop and all of the sudden would error as under/over voltage. The owner never got a new drive so it was used like that for a while, now i do not know what the status is as i have no access to it any more.
My advice, get a new VFD, it is a risk using the old one. I had 2 working servo drives when i started retrofitting it, by the time i was done both of them crapped out. They do not like to be left unused for long periods of time, pity as the Yaskawa makes some very nice drives.
Beware that if you have to change the drives, you will most probably have to change the encoders or motors also, the original Yaskawa encoders are not standard incremental ones. And removing them from the motors was a PITA!

Thanks tommylight.
It is possible that I have exactly the same problem! (cold contact on the same board). Today, I got to drive the spindle, but the vfd still doesn't start all the time.
I would prefer not to have to replace the vfd, much too expensive!

Leave it on and spinning at some low speed all day every day.

Hi tommylight,
Today, I test the orient command of the spindle, it works well.
I'm starting to think about changing tools. I looked at your files, I don't understand the remap.py. It's empty?
Thanks

I remember using Carousel comp made by Andy for sure, but i do not remember why and how i used remap.
I also recall it having an index pin and a pocket pin ( pin=switch=sensor) and a relay board that controlled the tool changer that after a bit of cleaning and service got to work nicely again after wiring it to 7i77/7i70/7i71.

Hi tommylight,
After adapting your files, the tool change works!
Here are my files:
Thanks!
For my wayward spindle drive, I found 3 capacitors on the drive's internal power supply that are dead. I'm going to change all of its capacitors.

Glad you got it working, it's nice to see old machines brought back to life.

Dug from grave
As a soon to be owner of a hurco BMC 20 and a BMC 30, both of which need control retrofits afaik, Please if you can share any information on how you wired, pinned out and programmed these tools changers would be immensely helpful to me. I have a SLV40 in the deal coming as well, but that tool changer is a bit more complex.
