Hello, dear forumers

I am going to retrofit a (new to me) 1980s matsuura MC-500v (picture attached) whose control system is broken (yasnaq 3000g).
Axis servo drives and xyz servomotors are ok, however spindle controller is broken.
This time I am going to use mesa cards 7i92M + 7i77 which I have no previous experience with. I have done a retrofit before using steppers (Optimum BF20 vario) and pc parallel port which seems to be a lot simpler than this retrofit. This time I'm working on closed loop servos , tool changer, spindle control, coolant pump, etc.

I know, there have been similar retrofits before in this forum.

Right now I'm gathering all the information related. And every advice from you guys would be very valuable to me.

It should be fairly straightforward, though there are a number of steps to complete.

It looks like PnCConf knows about the 7i92 / 7i77 combination so that should get you started at least.

To use an ethernet card I think you need a "uspace" version of LinuxCNC. The simplest way to get that is to use the .iso here:

www.linuxcnc.org/testing-stretch-rtpreempt/

(I think enough people have run this that we can downplay the warnings on that page)

Using version 09 for quite some time now, i have not noticed any bugs or issues with it, on 2 machines, 1 works every day at least 4 hours the other about 2 to 3 hours every 3 to 5 days.

Cards arrived a week ago, as of today, I flashed the bit file 7i92_7i77x2D.bit then I've created a very quick configuration using pncconf (for testing purposes coz there are many parameters I'm not sure about) ,edited and replaced any hm2_pci for hm2_eth,
and 5i25 for 7i92 in the hal file, also in the ini file.

when launching linucnc using my configuration I get the error attached .
I'm not sure what i missed so far.... I'm stuck

We need more than that.
Can you press the "select all" button in that error report box, then Ctl-C to copy it all to the clipboard, then paste it in to a message here?
The important information is likely to be off the bottom of the dialog box.

./machine2.hal:9: parameter or pin 'hm2_7i92.0.watchdog.timeout_ns' not found
is the problem.

Line 9 in the file machine2.hal

This might mean that the 7i92 driver has not found the 7i92. Try commenting-out that line and see if it errors-out at the next mention of the 7i92.

Your "loadrt hm2_eth" line in the HAL seems to lack the "board_ip=" entry. This is probably the problem.

loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" config=" num_encoders=6 num_pwmgens=0 num_stepgens=0 sserial_port_0=000xxx"

That is the complete line for 7i92/7i77
