Yeah Okay so here we go
I've soldered together each of the 5 wires in the cable shrinkwraping each one then reinstalling the outer cable housing up to the solder connections and shrinkwrapping overall between there and original cable housing in another layer. So now I am left with the outer wire mesh covering and what to do to connect it??
I was thinking of shrinkwrap tape but I've never used it before and not sure it will hold. Any thoughts???
I won't ask the wife to knit it together again, bruise should heal soon,
Thanks
Jim

Maybe solder some of the strands to retain the screening effect.
I am not sure what sort of tape will handle the conditions. Self-amalgamating would probably go sticky with coolant / oil.
Maybe a short length of spiral wrap?

did you test the sped reading of the scale soldering may cause a delay

Only tested to see the electric connection is working at this point. Further tests once the scale is mounted on the mill.
Afraid I am not aware of a speed test or that a delay might occur.
thanks

That is true, but for very high frequencies in the order of several GHz.did you test the sped reading of the scale soldering may cause a delay

Yes again
Another question are the glass scales (acu-rite enc125e) built so that the glass is in the center and the read head can be mounted either direction (up/down) or are the only one way?
Thanks
Jim

Well while going back thru the earlier posts I read the manual that Chris had the link to and the answer was right there! not about reversing the read head but how to reverse the pigtail in the read head (bottom p.3). So now its all back together and has working well thru several cycles of the Zaxis...
Thanks to all for putting up with me.
