So it has been some time, have been using the machine and im pretty happy. Just hooked up en mpg and the mpg encoder worked fine. Next thing to do was connect two knob rotary encoder thingies. I bought

from rs components, now for the problem im having..
when rotating one way it counts up fine, but the other way around is does not. I have been playing with the wiring, sourcing/sinking, switching A/B. Cant seem to get it to work
Added some scope screen shots of the knob (doesnt work correctly) and mpg encoder (works correctly)

On the first image, (that does no count) there is no apparent timing difference
between the rising edges of A and B so the encoder does not seem to be generating valid quadrature (at least within the 1 ms sampling time constraints of halscope)

As PCW haas said, the switches are not outputting valid quadrature.
You could send them back and reclaim your €2
I would suggest trying an alternative switch.
