Or you look at sim/gmoccapy/gmoccapy_tool_sensor.ini

And enjoy my beautifull GUI with integrated tool measurement option:-)

I installed and took a brief look a blendercam, ouch, it looks non intuitive, is there a good basic intro tutorial out there that does not have annoying background music and/or strong difficult to understand European accents?

He is very good at explaining things and does not have annoying music, just look for blendercam, as he has also tutorials for normal blender.
It will take about an hour or 2 to get the basic idea of using it, and from then on it will get easier, much easier.
Blender is a very powerful tool, it just takes a bit of getting used to.
