D510M0 build was created by welderfabrod
Guy,s have just decided to build a D510M0 system. I've had the board for several months now. Just a couple of questions.

1) Can anybody suggest a supplier for the parallel port header in the UK can't find one anywhere.
2) if I can't source the above can I use one of those mini PCI to parallel port things instead.
3) the sysetem is built into a case with Ubuntu 10.04 and Emc2 4.2.3 loaded and running BUT I am getting the dreaded RTAPI & unexpected real time delay errors when starting Emc2. I have disabled Hyperthreading in bios. My base thread starts at about 3000 then creaps up to 15000 to 20000. Thats with nothing else running any suggestions

2GB ram, ATI 7000 graphics card with 64 Meg ram.

Thanks Rod

The problem might be the graphics card, most of us using that board are using the onboard graphics (which are perfectly good enough for EMC2).
You could try other drivers. (though 20,000 isn't dreadful)
You might find some useful tips here:

This looks like the adaptor you want:

Why not use the built in Intel graphics? People are getting really
good latency figures with the D510M0 using the built in video.
It may in fact be your video card thats adding to the latency

Here's an example header connector:

Thanks guy's I used the card because I thought Emc2 was not happy with onboard graphics. Having established that it obviously is that may solve the question of the parallel port header. I have a PCI parallel port card ( for the standard PCI slot not the mini slot, would Emc2 be happy with this. Or is it just a matter of suck it and see.

You could use both p-ports, if you want.

Spot on guy's in fact I would say graphics are smoother on the IGC. Latency is down to 3000. Now the P/port, wilI I need a driver for this (it was in a Windows box) or should it just work and which is the best mode to use it in.

Sorry if these seem dump questions. I really appreciate the quick responses.

It should just work. Slot it in, boot the PC and then type
cat /proc/ioports
and see if it is listed.
You will probably see the onboard port as parallel port 0 at 0x378. Your PCI card will be the other one.

If you are using it only as individual IO and not for a Pico or Mesa card then the mode doesn't matter.

Andy did that and I get the message no such file or directory, sorry I'm not a linux user.

Usually you don't need to know the addresses of the parallel ports just use the index.

John had a look at that but is a bit goble-de-gook to me. I found this info on the pci p/port.

To install the parallel port on Linux use the following command.

/sbin/modprobe parport_pc io=0x3f8,a400 irq=4,18

But when I type it in I get the message "All config files need .conf: /ect/modprobe.d/emc2, it will be ignored in a future release".

I can understand a bit of the above line in that its setting up 2 p/ports one at 0x3f8 irq 4, and one at a400 irq 18 but what it does does'nt mean much I'm affraid.

Have tried the mill using stepconf but there 's no response at all.
