Well, you don't need to "install" a parallel port for EMC, only know it's address or the index. In a terminal window type lspci -v and find your pci parallel port. It might have several addresses and you will just have to pick one at a time till you find the actual one. An example is here:

Can anyone answer my other question on where to get a parallel port header here in the UK. I've searched the net and come up blank so far.
