Upgrade question

I have been using the distribution CD on my router for about a year and have a basic Lynix question. My computer is not connected to the internet so I was going to plug it in and upgrade my EMC. When I did it listed ALLOT of upgrades most of them had to do with the opperating system itself. Question is should I upgrade everything or should I go through the long list and un check everything except the EMC ? I was worried that if I upgraded everything my EMC instalation may not work any more. Please advise, thanks

it's fine to accept updates from the current version you have , via package manager etc , but not to upgrade to newer or other distriubtions such as 11.04
or updating the kernel etc .
