RTAI Latency error popup with D525MW was created by questi
Hi all

I took the advice and purchased an Intel D525MW motherboard. I just got it today, hooked everything up and stuff.

I turned off hyperthreading in the BIOS. I added a line in the GRUB2 for isolcpus=1. Now I am getting jitter of around 5000, which looks great.

However when I start EMC2 Axis itself, there is always a warning popup on the bottom right that says there is problems with RTAI latency. Why is this?

I can move the motors, but I havent milled anything yet to confirm if it works. What may be the problem?

Is it the SMI? The thing with that is when I follow the instructions, and modified the file, I cant open EMC2 as it gives the error screen. How do you disable SMI? I installed everything from the EMC2 Ubuntu 10.04 LiveCD supplied on this site.

No extra hardware added. Just the vanilla stuff like usb keyboard and mouse.

I also read about someone updating BIOS to get parport working? Do I need to do this?

That is unusual. (and disappointing).
If you type "dmesg" in a terminal window and look at the output you will see a more detailed description of the problem. Can you post that segment here?

Have you run the latency test? It would be useful to know if it is a one-time error or not. (the error message only appears once, even if there are frequent latency spikes.

Is it the SMI?

No. There have been no reports of SMI problems with the Atom boards.

No extra hardware added. Just the vanilla stuff like usb keyboard and mouse.

I managed to provoke a latency problem with my D510 with a particular webcam.

That shouldn't be necessary. EMC2 has been made to work around a glitch in the EPP-capability reporting of these boards.

Did you run a memtest?

In the past when I get the RTAI error, like with my laptop or my gaming PC, I am completely unable to move the motors. Here, I am able to move the motors.

Below is my error message. I will run a MEMtest later. My RAM is from my laptop and I think higher clock speed than the one in the motherboard specs require which is DDR3 800.

I was expecting to see some numbers for the RTAI error in the dmesg something along the lines of 'the latest, 245050 was so anomalously large that…" but it isn't there.

What is your base thread period? (it should be somewhere in the HAL file)
