Yes,
You can have one install on --prefix=/usr (ie with files copied to the usual /usr/bin usr/lib etc)
which is probably where 2.4.7 is right now
and as many installs as you like on --enable-run-in-place (ie RIP installations in /usr/src/emc-dev or whatever)
I have 2.4.5, 2.4.7, 2.5-xxxxxx~pre and 2.6~ pre on mine at present, albeit mostly use 2.5
Thereafter you change to the root directory of the RIP build and run . ./scripts/emc-environment to set the environment for that version, and then just run 'emc' for a RIP version.
The --prefix=/usr and --enable-run-in-place are the switches used with configure to create the right file system when you build the linuxcnc version.
Don't really need any others, but ./configure --help will bring up the possibles, most of them generic rather than specific to linuxcnc.
