Still using 8.04

LinuxCNC for 10.04 has been released for quite a long time now. How many users are still using 8.04? Much of the Wiki makes greater reference to 8.04 rather than 10.04 despite its age as an OS.

I use both 10.04 and 8.04 depending on the machine. Some of mine like 10.04 some do not. One that had a problem with 8.04 I did take the time to compile so it 10.04 would work. Others work just fine on 8.04 and I have no reason to change them yet. EMC works fine on both systems.
Right now I would try both and use whatever works best on your computer, later when EMC moves away from 8.04 I will look at options.

One big advantage of the 2.6.24 kernel used in 8.04 is that it was pre most of the attempted auto detection and HAL etc. that causes so many problems with older hardware not being detected properly with Ubuntu.

The 2.6.26 kernel was used for yonks with Debian Lenny and I found I could install that on almost anything.

Both my P4 workshop machines run 8.04 happily but will either not install 10.04 or get stuck in a very low res graphics mode because it cannot use DDC with the monitors.

I have a RIP install of 2.6~pre on both, so it doesn't hamper use of EMC at the latest version.

i have an old dell desktop i have been carting around for a while with 8.04 loaded on to it. its the only parallel port computer i have. the other 6 dont have the ports.
still dont have a machine yet, buy i am working on that.
