the problem is you cannot use a version of a touch driver meant for a standard version of Ubuntu , as these packages are prebuilt against a standard binary kernel , you need to be able to build in the touch screen driver to the kernel , linuxcnc has rtai (realtime ) kernel .
the deb file i posted does that .

i think the problem you have is that having try'd other solutions , the kernel is complaining of broken packages .
so to start with a clean machine should help

the driver above will need internet access during install to load additional packages , however it is proven to work with Linuxcnc rtai kernel
as during the process it will rebuild it .

using standard packages from ubuntu will break Linuxcnc kernel process , which is probably what you are experiencing

Linuxcnc is a genuine copy of Ubuntu , it only has additional kernel packages added . as these are difficult to install for a beginner , all the work is done for you
but for this very reason , using standard ubuntu packages can break your install if it has any impact on the Kernel . which in this case Touchscreens do .

it would be awesome if they can add these novelties to the next LinuxCNC releases so that it would only be simple install and play. would make life easier to just DL newer version and install to fix quirks like this

what errors ? be specific as you can , is the pc connected to the internet to be able to pick up packages as required ?
you say you have updated the linux kernel ? , is this just for the touch screen or for other problems , and what version is the kernel uname -a will give you the answer
