Version 2.5 in simulator mode?

I've updated to 2.5 in the shop, and would like to run 2.5 on my office computer in simulator mode (also on Ubuntu 10.04). I already have 2.4 on the office computer. Is it possible to run 2.5 in the simulator mode? Do I just follow the 2.4 -> 2.5 upgrade instructions? Or will that try to update the kernel to RTAI (which won't work on my office computer)?

I followed the instructions at the link you provided for 10.04. The simulator runs OK and it comes up as version 2.4.6. The question is whether it's possible to run version 2.5 in pure simulator mode?
