Identifying USB Pinouts? was created by mmt
I have setup Linux on several machines that I have built so I am fairly familiar with it.
I just received a 5 axis machine that has DC servos with step and direction drives. It is a commercially built foreign machine. It has a very nice control box but their software is built to do one specific operation that is of no use to me. The computer hooks up to the control box with 1 USB cable. Before gutting it to add a parallel port BOB I would like some input to see if it is feasible to figure out the USB pinouts so that I can install Linux and then configure it from there.
Any input on the matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kent

I don't think you will have much luck just looking at the pinout of a usb cable.

I think the OP means the API or how the hardware at the far end of the USB cable is accessed
Thats is likely only available from the manufacturer of the USB CNC control device.
(and is probably of no use for LinuxCNC anyway)
