If any body is still interested, I have installed Linux CNC 2.5 in a Mint 15 (Olivia) using the Ubuntu Price repository with synaptic, it worked just fine.
Just add:
deb buildbot.linuxcnc.org/ precise v2.5_branch-sim
In your repositories, and install from the synaptic GUI.

Good news. I am currently downloading Olivia with the same intention.
The pre-built LinuxCNC distro will not load on my machine even though it runs Mint 14, Windows XP,7, 8, CentOS happily. The machine is about 7 years old, but the video card is new (nvidia).
