[Question] Basic informations on linuxcnc was created by Blackkeeper
Hey fellows,
I`m trying to get a clue on LinuxCNC and there are some questions bothering me.
- How fast is LinuxCNC, is there a maximum speed given ?
- How accurate is LinuxCNC ?
- What is the maximum word length i can use with LinuxCNC ( 16, 32, 64 Bit ? )
- What is the maximum of positioning accuracy ?
I hope you guys can help me, i read most of documentation, but couldn't get some information about it.
Regards,
Blackkeeper

Everything you ask is a machine/hardware limitation not LinuxCNC.
I do no understand your question about word length.

Yes, you're right.
But is there no limitation of LinuxCNC, some kind of adjustment.
I know i can have various types of CPUs and they all have their own latency. But linuxcnc itself has to be an own software limitation on how fast it can process data and therefore a given maximum speed.

Hi
Linuxcnc is a numerical control system for machines, it does not move the machines, it outputs the instructions to move
That does not mean you can input a 32bit co-ordinate and expect to move the machine to it, see below
I can only assum that you are trying to compare Linuxcnc to the specifications for a specific machine and built in controller
If the machine is capable of those specifications, it will be capable of them controlled by Linuxcnc

Linuxcnc is a numerical control system for machines, it does not move the machines, it outputs the instructions to move
It can output instructions faster than any machine can act upon them, so as JT says the notion of its maximum speed is meaningless, it is governed by the machine.-How fast is LinuxCNC, is there a maximum speed given ?
As accurate as the machine- How accurate is LinuxCNC ?
If you are talking about programming, it is a 32bit program, so it uses 32 bit registers- What is the maximum word length i can use with LinuxCNC ( 16, 32, 64 Bit ? )
That does not mean you can input a 32bit co-ordinate and expect to move the machine to it, see below
The resolution of the machine and hence its positioning accuracy is governed by what distance it moves per unit of motor movement, which in turn is down to gearing, leadscrew thread pitch, microstepping etc- What is the maximum of positioning accuracy ?
