Feed hold

May be a daft question but does the feed hold/pause decelerate to a stop so as not to lose position or does it work like Mach3 using a buffer which take time to stop. ie if an axis is moving quite fast will feed hold bring it to a controlled stop and not lose steps. ..Clive
