Hi
gedit is a good start, it comes on the CD image
wiki.linuxcnc.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?Using_...id_In_Creating_Gcode
Do not use anything 'like' Word, you will have no end of trouble.
This a good place to start learning gcode programming oriented to Linuxcnc
