Firstly i must say that I am new to both Linux and LinuxCNC so I am in a very steep learning curve.
I have installed LinuxCNC 2.5.1 from a live cd. I am attempting to install LinuxCNc Pure Simulator.
I can download the application however when i issue the command
sudo dpkg -i linuxcnc-sim*.deb I get the following.
Selecting previously deselected package linuxcnc-sim.
dpkg: regarding linuxcnc-sim_2.5.1_i386.deb containing linuxcnc-sim:
linuxcnc-sim conflicts with emc2
linuxcnc provides emc2 and is present and installed.
dpkg: error processing linuxcnc-sim_2.5.1_i386.deb (--install):
conflicting packages - not installing linuxcnc-sim
Errors were encountered while processing:
linuxcnc-sim_2.5.1_i386.deb
Where do I go to from here please
Thanks in anticipation of help

Hi
If you have already installed Linuxcnc, you do not need to install the pure simulator.
The install you have is able to run any of the simulations.
Just choose one in the config picker, from the sample configs > sim > whichever one you want
The pure simulator is only for systems on which it is impossible to run Linuxcnc, ie those without a realtime kernel.
The error message is telling you that linuxcnc / emc2 is already present and the package you are trying to install conflicts with it, since you cannot have both installed at the same time
regards

Hi ArcEye
Thank you for your reply and I now understand why I am unable to install Pure Simulator.
The document Wiki: LinuxCNC Pure Simulator led me to believe that I was able to install Pure Simulator on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) which
was why I was trying to install. To me that is confusing.
Could you please tell me how I can run my own Gcode in simulation in LinuxCNC.
Thank You
Juggar1

Hi
You are in Oz so I assume you use metric units, in absence of info to contrary also assume a mill.
Open linuxcnc
from the config-chooser, choose Sample Configs > sim > axis > axis_mm
When it is open, F1, F2, Ctrl Home, File > Open and choose your GCode file, R
That is all there is to it
