Hello Everybody-- well this is where it all starts.
Is this a good forum for a newbie to be using because i will be asking many questions and appreciate
the input of THOSE WHO KNOW MANY THINGS.
Just for starters user manual ( which i will be working thru ) on "getting started' mentions a sample configuratuion
file called sim/axis.ini.
this immediately brings forward a number of questions.
where can i find a description of the files and folders that are used by linuxcnc ?
I would appreciate your help
Fred

To rick and all other readers and repliers
Rick your response thanks-- exactly what i need-
I appreciate the fact that you have pointed me to the answer
so that I can look it up for myself.
So often queries are posted on forums by forum users
who want the answer put in their mouths with cream
and they do not want to make any effort themselves.
As an experienced teacher- I know that the best way to get
something to stick is to make the student look it up for himself.
The only thing is that the student doesnt know where to look!
Best regards
Fred

Hello Ric -- many thanks
Next question is where do i find these files (.ini, hal, var, tbl,ml,linuxcncrs)
in the folder heirachy?
Incidentally-just terminology -- do linux users -use "folders" or do they use "directories"

your config folder ( or directory haha )
should be under your ~/home/<username>/linuxcnc/configs/<named dir >
