Problem with Video Card

I am a newbie to LinuxCNC. I have build my own CNC and wanted to use LinuxCNC for the control of the steppers. The PC I am using is a Dell Optiplex GX270. The installation of Debian Wheezy LinuxCNC went well and I could run LinuxCNC Axis but the latency was very poor with the onboard video. Then I installed a APG video card with the expectation to get a better latency but LinuxCNC Axis just start and then terminate with the following message:

I expect it is the video card but do not know how to get it to work. The rest of Linux Debian Wheezy seems to work fine with the APG video card.

Step by step assistance will be appreciated because I am also learning Linux as well.

Hi

python: nv04_state_raster.c:126: get_blend_func: Assertion `0' failed.


I managed to find one reference to this error, on a Russian CNC site

It appears to be specific to this particular type of nvidia AGP card

In that instance, changing to the software accelerated opengl libraries apparently worked

If that fails, you may have to go for something like a Matrox AGP board, nvidia is best avoided altogether.

Thank you very much for the quick response.
Will look at the link and try to understand it all. It seems if I must rather look for another APG video card or I must try some of the PCI video cards
that I have available.
I see in the LinuxCNC list of computers for Dell Optiplex GX270 it is mentioned that "Onboard video - must disable SMI".
I am not sure how to perform that. Is there a easy step by step procedure somewhere. Some of the articles and writeups are difficult for someone
without Linux background.

Only once you are sure you have an affected chipset.

Read the FAQ and do the test to determine that. There is a link to the wiki re loading the smi module.

Do one thing at a time, first try the software libs. Hopefully that will enable Axis to start, then you can look at further reducing latency
