LinuxCNC, modbus and VFDs

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get LinuxCNC to talk to one of my VFDs via modbus without success. At this point, I'd like to rule out the rs485 to usb adapters I've been using (a cheap Chinese one from ebay and a digitus one from amazon, neither works with the altivar VFD nor with the Hitachi WJ200). Does anybody have an rs485 adapter, either USB or plain old RS232, running with LinuxCNC? I'd like to get one that is known to work, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Clayton

I use the one that came with my GS2 VFD and it uses the serial port.

That was the hint I needed, thank you so much! I can only assume why the modbus<->usb converter didn't work (maybe it didn't respect RTS/CTS) but I got a cheap modbus<-> RS232 converter from ebay and it just works. Shipping it from Hongkong too forever though.
