Advice requested on 6i25/G540 Configuration

Folks,

Now that I have resolved the latency issues, I am now on the road to having a mill that can actually do things!!

Generally, things appear to be working correctly - I have been able to run the machine through "LinuxCNC" beginning to end and all seems well.

Things seem to be slower than I expected, so I think I need to bone up on Acceleration and Velocity!

Before I start on that endeavor, I am asking if someone would review where I am at and give me some advise. I have included a ZIP if my INI and HAL files. Could I please get some input on these files?

Much appreciated!

Paul

Current settings are 100 IPM max velocity and 120IPM/S acceleration

Depending on gearing, axis mass, and required torque, you may be able to increase these quite a bit
(these are set in the ini file with velocity units of IPS and acceleration units of IPS/S)

Thanks!

Do you have any suggestions for an X2 Mini-Mill, no gearing, NEMA23 381oz in, PSU 48V/12.5A

It looks like in your ini file under DISPLAY, you have the MAX_LINEAR_VELOCITY = 1.000000 (which would be 60inches/min)
Similarly, you have the max feed for each axis set to 100 inches/min.

Those are not particularly blazing fast speeds, are they the ones you wanted?

Also your accelerations are not very high, the slower machines I have use accelerations about 3-5 times higher.

Nothing jumps out at me as wrong, (if it works it must be right) But I didn't try to run it, or look too closely.

I would not be surprised if you could go ten times higher on acceleration (20ips/s) and maybe twice as fast on velocities (or more).

They are not necessarily what I WANT! What I do want is to set it up to run right, and much quicker than it does as I am sure it is capable.

Thanks!

Sounds like a great place to start!
