I am replacing my manual Sherline mill with a CNC Sherline 5400. I need to take some IGS files and convert them to gCode so that LinuxCNC can drive the mill. Converting the IGS file to gCode looks like something CUT3D would do well. Any other users have any experience before I spend the money buying CUT3D?

Clayton,
I have used several inexpensive and free cad and cam programs. The one I would recommend now is Autodesk Fusion 360. It is essentially free to a hobbyist that does not make much money with the software. It runs on windowz and mac (sorry no linux yet).
It has good 3d and 2d cad features and excellent 2d and 3d cam features.
You can import an IGS file and then go to the cam environment and set up your toolpaths for machining.
Cant beat the price of free.
Unfortunately I can't speak to Cut3d as I have not used it.

I'd recommend looking at fusion 360 also.
I am in love with it's cam software, very good for the money (free or not, I pay $300/yr for mine)
The cad side is not my style, but others have made great work with it.
Cut3d will probably do what you want, but if you need to make any changes to the model, you won't be able to do that in cut3d. You will have to get another program.
