tool question was created by clayton cramer
At the suggestion of several other users, I have fought Fusion 360 (the world's least reliable software) until I could produce an NGC file for my Sherline mill. When I transfer it over to my Linux box, and try to run it in backplot, I get a complaint about unidentified tool. I adjusted the tools database in the Tools tab, but it does not appear to run. Is there something I am missing? A manual mill is beginning to look like less work.

Yes, and so are we.

Need the code which produces the error, the exact wording of the error and the tool.tbl from your config.
(you will probably have to rename to tool.txt to get it to attach)

regards

Here's the output from Fusion 360, and the stepper.tbl, which is where the tools table ends up.

Clayton,

There is no tool change called out in the G-Code.

Which post processor did you use in Fusion 360? I am currently using the EMC post processor and it seems to work fine for my machine.

I ran your G-Code file in my sim configuration and it ran without an error.

Sorry you don't like the Fusion 360 software. I think it works pretty darn good for free software.

I used the postprocessor for the Sherline mill. Perhaps I should look for a generic EMC one.

Fusion 360 hangs when I select a tool.

Interesting, I don't have that issue. You might want to log the issue with Autodesk.

The second line in your tool tbl doesn't look right. You could try deleting it.
You could add T1 M6 G43 in the ngc file before any cutting moves.

I have informed AutoDesk but it seems beyond them.

I deleted the second line as you suggested. The simulator fails in a very odd way, regardless. It doesn't throw an error, it just does nothing at all. The generic EMC postprocessor fails in Fusion.

Seems as though you either have a corrupt 360 part file or your installation must be corrupt. I just opened a file and posted it using the emc post processor. I thought that Autodesk might have broken something with a new update but it still works for me.

Also I don't even see a post processor listed for the Sherline mill.

If you want I can look at your file to see if I can get it to work on my install. I sent you an email with my email address. You can email me the part file or add me to your project and I can look at the file that way.
