I am debating on using a button or a touch plate for tool touch off. Does anyone have any thoughts or pros and cons on which one to use?

It probably comes down to budget. They range in price from many thousands of {currency unit} from the likes of Renishaw to single figures {currency units} on eBay.
Only you know where the price/benefit break-point is for you.
