linuxcnc 2.7.0
Further to my previous post, I just restarted the computer and there is now no sign of the Linuxcnc shortcut, nothing to start it in the applications/cnc drop-downs. the other linuxcnc stuff is there.
went to do an edit on the existing ini or whatever file and it 's not there.
is the a file that i can hard load onto the drive so that i don't have to use a disc or redo the setup every time i run it.?????
this has not been a great intro to linux.,
HELP!!!!!!!!!! please
Doug

This is very strange.
Does LinuxCNC try to start if you type "LinuxCNC" in a terminal window?
(You can open a terminal from the "accessories" menu.)
This will show if LinuxCNC has been randomly uninstalled (I have no idea why that might happen)

BigJohnT and Andypugh
thanks for thew reply
(How did you install LinuxCNC?)
from disk created from "linuxcnc-2.7. wheezy
(Does LinuxCNC try to start if you type "LinuxCNC" in a terminal window?)
Yes, but it takes me to a "configuration selector page....my previously saved config file does not appear here....when i select a cofig the program starts.
It appears that the shortcut is being deleted when i exit linux.
I cannot start linux without the dvd in place, surely there is a way to hard mount linuxcnc onto the hard drive, i just don't know how.....
The version i have was listed as 2.7.3 but is in fact 2.7.0 .....where do i get the 2.7.3 version please.

It sounds like you are booting from the DVD. In this mode there is no change made to the Hard Drive, so configs don't get saved.
When you boot from the DVD there should be a menu giving the option to install Linux, either graphically or at the command line. Graphically it probably to be preferred.
Or have you already done that?
Note that installing from the DVD will wipe the hard drive and remove the existing OS. Be sure that is what you want to do.
