I was unable to install virtualbox (installed but not able to run) due to a DKMS package error.
This attempt was made on Wheezy 64bits running a preempt rt kernel on a fresh install.
I would like to be able to run my CAM on the same PC as linuxcnc. Anyone have ideas - or a clear information that this is to be avoided/not recommended?
I tested with 64 bits - to test if the virtual machine performance would be good - but I can also go to 32 bits.
Thank you

Have you tried any other VM software? (Such as KVM/Qemu)
What is your CAM software? Might it be able to run under Wine?
Another option might be to have your CAM on a separate computer, then remotely log into it from the CNC using a remote viewer.
(I've never tried to run a VM on one of our CNCs)

I use VM a lot for checking startup usb drives, i did have the same problem (installed without errors but did not run) on one of the laptops i use, but QEMU did work. On all the others it works without a problem, but i try to avoid 64bit linux if possible, it is slower and i do not need 8GB of ram ever although i did have it on 2 laptops. Will have to use it eventually, but for now i am skipping it.
Give QEMU a try.
