Just a little of confusion but nothing has changed.

What I was going to consider was to make up a different parallel port cable connection to suit an existing configuration.
I'm glad that I can't damage the controller and feel much better.

Cncbasher thank you for you assistance you have already helped me allot.

I'm going to try again and I'll try all the suggestion given.

For now lets see how far I get with the current bit files and hal files.

Thank you to everyone and your assistance so far, this has been a complex challenge for me.

just take it one strep at a time, if thiers a problem , let me have the dmesg output , and lets solve one step at a time .
or you'll probably become confused again .,, LOL .

The files as i posted should work , apart from modifiying the ini to suit your scaling , which is done by hand and not pncconf
as this would remove or change what you have already .

any error will show up in dmesg ( usuallly ) , along with the hal file name and line number .
the main problem which worries me is the very high latency values you appear to be obtainiing , by factors of 10 above what i would concider ok , it may welll be that the particular mother board your using is unsuitable for linuxcnc , it does happen !.

so reporting the output of dmesg will allow us to solve problems as they occour ,
but any problem caused to realtime , can be time consuming to trace , and in some cases cannot always be cured .
