Gday everyone. Im new to linux but will work it out sooner or later. Ive tried to get LinuxCNC working before to no avail, but I'm back for another go.

At the moment I'm looking for a gcode editor + viewer to run on ubuntu 14.10. I'm not looking to control any machines with this system. purely write and edit code. is it possible to get the simulation part of Linux CNC to work on Ubuntu 14.10?

any other thoughts for my circumstance?

thankyou

Hi

If you have to run Ubuntu, don't pick a version which is already 6 months past its 'end of life'
wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Choose a LTS version that is supported for 5 years

Then see this thread
forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/9-installing-li...buntu-14-04-lts-true
and probably others (just search the forum with '14.04')

If that all seems too involved, just install the Debian based distro. It matters not whether you run a simulation or the real thing, both will run on the distro.

Ah ha. Knowledge is good lol. I didn't realise this at all.

also I'm sorry but i wrote the wrong version. Ive got 15.10 not 14.10

but this is good to know. Perhaps i should look at 14.04.1 as is seems to have the longest support according to th list you link me to.

thankyou. now I'm sorta bummed out a bit i spent my time setting up 15.10. but all a learning experience.
