Stepper config working but LinuxCNC doesn't operat

I got my electronics wired up and working. I'm using a Chinese parallel port board.
With Stepconf I can run the test and control all three axis's. When I start LinuxCNC
most of the machine section is grayed out. The manual jog controls don't operate the
steppers. I admit I'm a total newbe with LinuxCNC so I'm probably missing something
simple.

Did I miss a configuration step? I don't think I need to run Prnconf. That looks to be just for
Mesa boards.

Thank you.

Using F1 to reset E-stop and then F2 to turn power on worked.
Cursor keys now cause the axis's to move on the GUI but steppers
don't move.

I went through the Stepconf again and found that the 'Create Simulate Hardware Configuration' check box was checked.
Unchecked that box, saved config, relaunched LinuxCNC and it's not working.

is that it's NOW working or still NOT working.
If not working please post your config files.
