My first though would be to go to Jessie, and install linuxCNC there...

... But I saw this post this morning which tend to say it is not ready yet for Jessie

I am comfortable with Linux, but I am a LinuxCNC newbie. At this point in time, I am staying with Jessie as it works for me, but I can't recommend for others.

It would be nice if some LinuxCNC 'guru' could comment on this case ;)

Just an idea, but is there a good reason that the monitor can't be mounted the right way round?

If not, then you can _probably_ rotate the screen with an entry in xorg.conf. This seems to have more "authority" than xrandr, but is more complex to configure.

Sure, I have a lot of reasons - not least the one that has this option normaly just works.
Configuration with the xorg.conf I tried, but it always ended with a black screen.

Have you asked the question anywhere else? We are reasonably OK at answering LinuxCNC questions here, but this seems like a general Debian(?) question, and you are more likely to find an answer on their forums.

Yes he questioned, but as you can read above in Debian it works.
