Linuxcnc on Ubuntu precise was created by fast1
Hello everyone:
yet another noob here.
I have been trying for several days to get Linux Cnc working on a stand alone system.
It was easy to get the Wheesy ISO installed but I could never get the network functioning.
I have sense tried installing the Linuxcnc 2.7 on Ubuntu Precise 12.04,
I follow the steps in
linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-start...etting-linuxcnc.html
But when I reboot as directed I do not get a boot menu and
uname -r
reports
3.13.0-83-generic
I have downloaded the iso twice and installed the system multiple times.
I always get the same results.
Naturally when I finish installing Linuxcnc it won't run complaining that
the rtos isn't running.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Fayette Sims

I'm unsure exactly where you are at in your system. But if you change the kernel you have to change that in your config. You have to tell Linux to use the kernel you installed. There are many tutorials out there to do that. Here is an example that Tim March did.
forum.linuxcnc.org/forum/9-installing-li...debian-8-mint-lmde-2
Just read through here and you will see what needs to be done. Tim March is using Grubcustomizer to do these steps:
Find Grub-Coustomizer in start menu
Open Grub-Coustomizer
Now click the "General Setting" tab
Click on choice box to the right of predefined
In drop down menu choose 3.16.0-9-rtai-686-pae for default system boot.
Obviously only use this as an example as it may not be for your exact situation. I personally have used Tim March's ISO and install method. Worked well for me.

Sir:
Thank you very much for your reply. I am in the process
of trying Tim's install on Mint. I think that will be a good way
to go. I am encouraged that it worked for you.
Thanks again,
