Spindle Orient (M19) Help was created by brianbonedoc
I have my Grizzly Lathe running PathPilot version of Linuxcnc and I thought it would be fun to play around and get the spindle orient to work. BTW - the orient.ko isn't natively in PP, so I put it in the rtlib and it doesn't error when called in the .hal.
My spindle is a VFD drive w/ a quadrature encoder and everything is working, tapping, threading beautifully - except of course M19.
I am using StepGen to drive the spindle and did try to edit my .hal according to Andy Pugh's example. I finally got it to boot, but when I turn on the spindle it just maxes out the rpm no matter what the input. Also the M19 doesn't move the spindle at all.
Hopefully it's something simple I am missing.
Thanks for any help!

what are you expecting M19 to achieve on a lathe? , this is usually used to orentate a stopped spindle for ATC on a milling machine or a boring tool before toolchanging, etc . commonly used for orient of a toolholder, to a toolchanger .

Sarah - thanks! Basically I just want it to respond to M19 commands. I don't really have a crazy need, but I wanted to mess around trying to use some live tooling either along the X or Z axis and to be able to rotate the part. It may not really work out well because I don't have a spindle brake, it's more of a challenge to make it work. Also I was hoping to use the encoder and PID to dial in the spindle speed a bit better. I have been using the Lincurve module but it would be more eloquent to use PID feedback.
I posted the hal and ini files above. Any tips would be awesome!
