7i43 connection error was created by soroosh.av
Hi friends
I'm trying to use a mesa 7i43-U4 to control 3 servos. I used Linuxcnc sample configuration to create the hal and ini files. But I'm facing an error while opening EMC. I searched for this problem and tested some thing described below:
1. Jampers places:
W1, W2, W3: up
W4, W5: down
W6, W7: up (I am using USB power)
2. I checked out connectors and wiring(26 pin to 25 pin parallel port) with multimetter and there was no problem.
3. Parallel port is configured as EPP in BIOS setting.
4. My motherboard is gigabyte GA-P41T-D3P but i don't know how can i understand if this motherboard will work or not.
I don't know what should i do more!!!!!
and the EMC debug Text is this(With some shorthand):
Debug file information:
insmod: error inserting '/usr/realtime-2.6.32-122-rtai/modules/emc2/hm2_7i43.ko': -1 Input/output error
hm2-servo.hal:46: exit value: 1
hm2-servo.hal:46: insmod failed, returned -1
See the output of 'dmesg' for more information.

possible reasons:
Wrong port address
7I43 power issue
cable issue
wrong 7I43 mode (no power cycle after moving 7I43 mode jumpers)
bad/damaged 7I43
bad/damaged parallel port
What LEDs are on and do they change when you load LinuxCNC?

Means that the EPP interface is not working for some reason[ 682.470363] hm2_7i43: failed to clear EPP Timeout!

Three LEDs are on, two red and one yellow.
I tested it on two PCs, on one of them the red ones turned off after opening Linuxcnc, and on the other one nothing happened.

If both red LEDs go off, that means you have communicated with the card and loaded
a valid FPGA configuration so it looks like the 7I43 works with that PC

But linuxcnc is not opening yet. I'll test it more and give more details with that PC.
Thanks a lot.

That problem had been solved by connecting an Earth wire to the PC.
I'm now connected to the servo driver but when i run EMC i face with an joint0 following error. When i put the servo driver on jog mode and move it, i see axis movement on the screen. I think that means the N-coder connection is ok, i'm sure that analogue output wiring is ok..
I'm using a 7I33TA for controlling servo.
Do you have any idea about this problem?

Following errors are expected the first time you set up a servo system

And the last question is(I hope...) what kind of motherboards are compatible with Mesa board?
I want to work with 5I25 in future and I don't know what kind of motherboards I can use for these two boards.

As far as I know; All motherboards are compatible with a Mesa card with an existing pci slot. The incompatibilities are with real time latencies and video card/chipsets issues. In the wiki there is a listing of motherboards tested for use; also on this forum of hardware tested for use. When you own a Mesa card you can have a lot higher latencies than if trying to use the parallel port.
