My 7i77 is located in one control cabinet, and the 5i25 in the control panel(with the PC). I'm planning out the control panel, and was wondering if I can breakout the P2 connector on the 5i25 for simple input/output buttons/lights for the control panel instead of running an umbilical into the 7i77 just to transmit it back along the DB25 cable. Am I correct in thinking that IO17-33 could be used as logic level I/O by just connecting a ribbon cable to the P2 connector and splitting it out? What can the outputs sink? If I want more buttons, can I just breakout a parallel port too?

Outputs can sink 24ma
If you have 5V referred loads (like LEDs) its best to use open drain mode
