Is anyone successfully using X11 forwarding to macOS Sierra with Axis as the UI?
I have it kinda working but if I switch tab pages to the DRO or any gladevcp panel then the tab display changes to a black background with no foreground.
When Linuxcnc first runs I get the following:
libGL error: No matching fbConfigs or visuals found
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
Cheers, Phill

I can't recall if Axis works for me, but other things do.
Are you using ssh -Y ?

Yes, I am using ssh -Y
I am running LinuxCNC 2.8.0-pre1-2758-g1bcd51e on jessie 64bit with 4.4.0-trunk-rt-amd64 kernel
Using the stock sims, touchy and tkemc appear ok
axis behaves as above
gmoccapy has a blank white preview screen and if any window appears above it then remnants of that window stay in the preview area
I cannot seem to find any error messages.
All the above work fine on the linux machine.

Actually that is not quite right...
Gremlinview doesn't work in touchy, all that appears are the controls on the left side.

I just tested. With my Mac running Sierra and XQuartz 2.7.9 (xorg-server 1.17.4) I can run Touchy and Mini but Axis and Gmoccapy don't even start, failing with various GLX errors.
So, I think you are actually in a better position than me.
logging in via ssh to the same machine from a VMWare Fusion LinuxCNC installation works OK though.

I tried XQuartz 2.7.7 thru 2.7.11 without success and also tried macports xorg-server 1.18.4
Thanks for the virtual machine tip, I tried a Linux appliance in VirtualBox and it works OK as well.
The reason I am trying this is I want to run my LCNC machines headless and I want to have one workhorse machine in my workshop to connect to these plus be my everyday computer. I am also using Fusion 360 and really did not want my workhorse to be a windows box. It seems you have saved me from going down that path.

I have settled on
XQuartz 2.7.7
with
x2go
which allows a single application session.
All later versions of XQuartz (up to 2.7.11) don't seem to work correctly.
I did try VMware Fusion and VirtualBox but Gremlin updates were very ordinary on both (very laggy).

I use the latest version and it seems to work fine.
Do you use ssh -Y ?
The -Y switch seems to be necessary.

When using basic X forwarding I do use ssh -Y, the problem I have is that when I switch tabs parts of the preview (gremlin?) remain where they were. If I use x2go this problem resolves itself...
Later versions of XQuartz with x2go cause problems when exiting.
