5 Days in LinuxCNC Install Hell

I've installed 2.5 without problem.
I've installed the Wheezy package on my MacBook under VirtualBox. No problem. It all works great.
The goal was to update (complete reinstall) on the USB stick I use to run my production machine.

I've tried for 5 days to install the same package off the same DVD on:
1) USB
2) Dell Inspiron HD
3) HP Envy dv6 HD

No luck. (I know laptops aren't recommended, but thought I'd try. In any case I want to put the OS on a USB stick, and it should be okay to use a laptop to write the stick.)

I can get Wheezy to install ( on the laptop HDs, not on USB), but when I launch LinuxCNC I get a an error dump and the message that "LinuxCNC terminated with an error. When reporting problems, please include all the information below in your message."

How?

I can "select all" using the button at the bottom, but I can't copy.

Who knows? This may be an EASY problem for someone here to solve - but the problem I have now is how to get the diagnostics off the screen and into forum entry!

Meanwhile, I've run dmesg > errorfile, but don't know if it contains the right information.

I think you've actually done pretty well to only have had 5 days in hell. Some of spent a lot longer idown there!
