MESA AND STUFF was created by monit111
Hi All
im currently about to buy some ADtech servos but, im a little confused by the info in the book.
I know of step and direction but have no clue what a pulse and direction is? i feel like they could be the same but finding a little hard to get a definitive answer from the seller (maybe its a communication error from my end)
the next issue I'm having is the encoder on this servo (its a 2500ppr) when I sent him an email he responded with yes good servo 10,000 pulses /r. but I cant get how accurate this is in arc mins from the gent.
final thing is
can anyone recommend the correct messa board to do the following
control 5 servo motors (pulse and direction)
control one servo spindle motor (I know this will work with step and direction)
have all the usual relay and limit switch stuff
but can also allow me to connect at least 3 linear encoders.
I need this all to connect to pc using an Ethernet port as the pc being used is way to small to have the big printer port thing.
thank you

Probably a 7i76e plus another card or two, such as a 7i85s (to add 4 encoder inputs for a total of 5 and 4 more step/dir outputs for a total of 9). If you need more other digital IO than the 32 in and 16 out, adding a smart serial card or two can expand that greatly.

Mesa cards can be Ethernet, PCI and PCIe.

thanks for getting back to me
can 7i85s take SSI absolute encoders?
on 2 of the axis I will need this.
I read that linuxcnc does have the ability to work with SSI but nothing about the mesa board used?
thank you

SSI requires a RS-422 interface (one TX pair, one RX pair) Normally a 7I74/7I44 is used for this
