Running simulations

How would I modify the files for a real machine so that I can simulate them without being hooked up to real hardware? I am trying to get the craftsmancnc UI working but there is no stepconf file for it. I have looked at the sim configs for the standard UIs but cannot determine exactly how they work. Thanks.

are you using master? is it a parallel port config if so stepconf can make simulated configs using special components.
if you are not using master then you could modify a sim config.
if you are using a mesa card you are outta luck.

I've read that thread several times in fact. Hopefully, it will be revived as I like that UI and would like to get it working. Thanks.
