How stop or recover a linuxCNC crash when code contains infinite loop?

G'day

I am running 2.5.0

When I write G code and load it, it sometimes happens that I made a mistake and a while loop contains a parameter that does not increase or has been changed elsewhere.

When I load that file, the linuxCNC goes crazy busy and there seems no way of stopping it or recovering.

I eventually have to turn the computer off, which has other terrible consequences

the whole computer becomes completely unresponsive.

My guess is that it is the graphical path preview section that does this?

Is there any way to recover or stop this?

Regards
Bernt

I think you have learnt why you need an external estop switch fitted. Do you have one?

Just open a terminal and type linuxcnc, you will see a message that linuxcnc is still running and you must enter y to stop the running one.

Thats it
