I went through the configuration wizard and upon completing the configuration I changed the IP address for the for the 7i76e to read as follows: loadrt hm2_eth board_ip="10.10.10.10" . I am running on the latest version of linux mint mate on a brix machine and mint has the 4.8.11-rt7 kernel. This is the first time I have tried to fire up linuxcnc after running the mesa configuration using the Pncconf wizard.

Any ideas as to what would be causing the below error with the iptables and how to solve it?

Are you sure you have your Ethernet MAC setup properly to access the card at 10.10.10.10?
(what does 'ip a" report?)

I dont recall the exact details but there some issue with Ubuntu 16.04 derived
OS's (Mint 18 for example) and LinuxCNC's iptables handling. The error is not fatal
and is fixed in LinuxCNC master

OK if you have the FPGA card set for 10.10.10.10 you need to setup enp3s0 with a static IPV4 address
I normally set the host to 10.10.10.1 with a 255.255.255.0 netmask

You can do this either with the netmanager tool or by editing the config files as described in the hm2_eth manual page

Okay figured out how to own my computer so back to linuxcnc LOL!

Thanks for the quick reply.

Ignore this comment .... I have a new issue with not having permissions to create a file within the /ect/network/interfaces.d location. Its always something. Praying the fix doesnt require anything drastic

Followed the guide and have a new error message. Will include all previous requested info. Also will try again tomorrow night to see what else I have messed up or what is hindering the process. Nevertheless as you will see the IP is now showing in the ip a but still something is not firing off. Maybe you can spot what it is. I may try doing this another way via the network.

I cut off the error message as it was seeing parts of the board apparently but no need to put the whole 22 page list up here. Nevertheless you can get the idea of what it was seeing.

Thanks for all the help brother.

You need to be root (via sudo) to edit the interfaces file, but if you don't want to do this
you can use the network manager GUI

Yes that iptables error is the error you get with Mint 18 or Ubuntu 16.04 and LinucCNC 2.7.X
I dont think its a serious issue but is fixed in LinuxCNC master

Any suggestions as to which version would be best for Mint? I believe the master is an iso if I remember correctly. I will give things a shot when I get home tonight.

By the way, a serious thank you for your help. I would be in the woods without it. Brand new to all this but enjoying the challenge.

if you are using Mint 18, master (2.8) does not have the iptables issue (though 2.7 will work even with that issue)
If you use Mint17 both LinuxCNC 2.7 and master work
